Swiss Jazz musician Bruno Spoerri could sue Jay-Z and Timbaland for up to half a million dollars, according to industry experts. For «Versus» on Jay-Z’s latest album «Magna Carta Holy Grail» the two superstars used one of Spoerri’s samples without his permission.
Jay-Z and Timbaland have agreed to compensate Spoerri, but are offering no more than 25,000 dollars. This would barely cover the legal costs the 78-year-old Jazz musician has incurred so far in this matter.
Ultimately Spoerri is likely to settle for the 25,000: «Suing Jay-Z would cost around 100,000 dollars, which is more than any of us can afford», he said.
