A stunning image of a panther chameleon (Furcifer pardalis), framed by a backdrop of jungle foliage as it snares its prey with alarming accuracy, is today (Thursday) revealed as the winning image of the ZSL Animal Photography Prize 2014.
 
Captured by photographer Simone Sbaraglia, the photograph has been awarded the coveted top prize in the third annual animal photography competition, run by international conservation charity, the Zoological Society of London (ZSL). 

The winning photograph, picked from thousands of entries, will be on display at ZSL London Zoo from Friday 19 September. 
 
Mr Sbaraglia spent days waiting to capture the perfect shot, in a bid to encourage more people to connect with nature. He said:

Gelungen ist das Foto Simone Sbaraglia. Er habe tagelang auf diesen perfekten Moment gewartet: «Ich habe viel Zeit damit verbracht, das Verhalten des Chamäleons zu studieren, um genau im richtigen Moment auf den Auslöser drücken zu können.» Und weiter: «Ich hoffe, dass Menschen, die das Bild betrachten, fasziniert von dem Tier sind, sich mit der Natur verbunden fühlen und lernen, sie zu respektieren.»
