Jahrelang rannte der unermüdliche Kämpfer fast aussichtslos gegen die Big 3 – Federer, Nadal und Djokovic – an und verlor seine ersten vier Grand-Slam-Finals. Mittlerweile steht seine Endspiel-Bilanz bei 3:8. Zum Vergleich: Stan Wawrinka hat alle seine drei Major-Finals gewonnen.
King Andy II. – nach Roddick ist Murray der zweite Andy auf dem Tennisthron – musste also lange untendurch: Nach einer Rückenoperation fiel die 26. Weltnummer 1 (hier geht's zur kompletten Liste) 2014 kurzzeitig sogar aus den Top 10, kämpfte sich aber wieder zurück. Er hat in der Ära der Giganten 43 ATP-Turniere gewonnen, darunter 14 bei Masters-1000-Events (zum Vergleich: Bei Wawrinka sind es 15/1).
Wie lange Murray auf dem Tennisthron sitzen wird, ist natürlich noch nicht klar. Mindestens zwei Wochen auf jeden Fall. Bei den World Tour Finals in London muss der Schotte ab kommendem Sonntag den ersten Angriff abwehren. 405 Punkte beträgt sein Vorsprung auf Djokovic.
Pro Sieg in der Gruppenphase gibt es 200 Punkte, als Finalist kriegt man 400 zusätzliche Punkte, als Sieger deren 900. Maximal 1500 liegen in London also drin – die Punkte vom letzten Jahr wurden bereits gestrichen. Auf die faule Haut kann sich Murray also nicht legen.
