Aus Furcht vor Anschlägen hat das Olympische Komitee der USA seinen Athleten vom Tragen der Nationalfarben in Sotschi abgeraten. Kleider mit US-Farben oder Logos des Olympiateams sollten ausserhalb der Wettkampfstätten während der Winterspiele in der russischen Schwarzmeer-Stadt nicht getragen werden. Zuvor hatte das «Wall Street Journal» von einem entsprechenden Hinweis des Komitees an die Athleten berichtet.

Russland sei allerdings kein Einzelfall, sagte US-Aussendepartementssprecherin Marie Harf. Die Regierung gebe bei grossen internationalen Veranstaltungen oft ähnliche Hinweise. Das Weisse Haus hat Bedenken hinsichtlich der russischen Sicherheitsvorkehrungen für Sotschi. Hinter vorgehaltener Hand wir in Washington darüber geklagt, dass die russischen Experten ihre Geheimdiensterkenntnisse zu terroristischen Bedrohungen nicht mit ihren US-Kollegen teilen. Als Vorsichtsmassnahme schickt das US-Verteidigungsministerium zwei Kriegsschiffe ins Schwarze Meer. (sda)
