Warum Peking jetzt Hongkong unter Kontrolle bringen will

Politisch ist der Zeitpunkt günstig, wirtschaftlich steht langfristig viel auf dem Spiel.

Als die Briten 1997 Hongkong wieder an China zurückgaben, haben sie sich dabei herausbedungen, dass die Menschen in der ehemaligen Kolonie noch 50 Jahre lang in einem System mit dem Titel «ein Land, zwei Systeme» weiterleben dürfen. Westlicher Rechtsstaat und Demokratie sollten bis Mitte des 21. Jahrhunderts nicht angetastet werden dürfen.
