Nach dem Tod des Afroamerikaners George Floyd bei einem brutalen Polizeieinsatz in Minneapolis kommen die USA nicht zur Ruhe. In mehreren US-Metropolen kam es in der sechsten Nacht in Folge zu Protesten, die teils in Gewalt ausarteten.



Der Sender CNN berichtete, in New York seien tausende Menschen auf die Strasse gegangen.

Mindestens 15 der 50 US-Bundesstaaten und der Hauptstadtbezirk Washington mobilisierten die Nationalgarde, wie CNN berichtete. Die Nationalgarde gehört zur Reserve der US-Streitkräfte und kann in Bundesstaaten in Ausnahmesituationen zu Hilfe gerufen werden.

Hintergrund

Floyd war am Montagabend nach einem brutalen Polizeieinsatz in Minneapolis im Bundesstaat Minnesota gestorben. Einer von vier beteiligten Beamten drückte dem 46-Jährigen minutenlang sein Knie in den Nacken. Bitten des Afroamerikaners, ihn atmen zu lassen, ignorierte er. Bei den Protesten in Washington und anderen Städten trugen Demonstranten Schilder mit «Ich kann nicht atmen».
