Doch mehr als 70 Minuten hielt die Partie gar nicht, was man sich im Vorfeld davon versprochen hatte. Im Gegenteil: Gareth Southgates Engländer konzentrierten sich mehrheitlich darauf, hinten keine Fehler zu machen und Jogi Löws Deutsche waren nicht in der Lage, den Riegel zu knacken.
So gab es nur wenig Fussball-Feinkost zu sehen – stattdessen viel Ballgeschiebe im Mittelfeld sowie Kampf und Krampf. Entsprechend wenig euphorisch waren die Reaktionen auf die Affiche in den sozialen Medien.
